This morning, I’m saddened to hear of the loss of conductor, Neville Marriner. He was one of the great Bach interpretors. I was fortunate, many years ago, to hear him conduct his Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields live. I still remember exactly where I was and where I sat in the hall. The performance was Bach’s Mass in B Minor.
Here is a Marriner recording of this work from 1978 with Margaret Marshall, Janet Baker, Robert Tear, Samuel Ramey and the Academy and Chorus of St. Martin-in-the-Fields.
