Inventions

9/5/2016

by Rebecca Cochran

The Bach Inventions are short, two-part contrapuntal pieces written as musical exercises for his students. There are fifteen Two-Part Inventions, arranged in order of ascending key and covering the eight major and seven minor keys.

One of my favorites of these is Invention No. 14 in Bb major (BWV 785). Here are recordings of two different interpreters of No. 14. Enjoy them both!

Pianist, András Schiff

Pianist, Glenn Gould

    My Year of Bach.

    This is an experiment.
I love Bach: listening to Bach; playing Bach (alone or with others); discovering Bach; learning from Bach; sharing Bach.

I need Bach in my daily life.

So, for 2016, I'm challenging myself to write a short daily post about Bach. Come along for the ride, if you're so inclined. Let's listen, share and learn together!
